First, a quick note about dinner on Tuesday: We had paella with seafood, including the little langostino whose claws you can see in the photo below. The rice and all the shrimp, clams, and squid were delicious. The langostino was mostly just fun to look at.
Wednesday was an excellent tourist day. We walked past the university to the Plaza de Espana, which was wonderful, even on a hot hazy day. There was a big exposition held here in 1929, celebrating all the Spanish-speaking countries in the world. Each province in Spain has a beautiful tile bench on a huge curved walkway around a lake, with a colorful tile map of the province in front of the bench. You can see the lake and a map of Sevilla in my photos.
Next we walked to the Guadalquivir river, and along the river to a small tower. Inside is a very interesting museum about ships. The big map in my photos is hard to see but it shows how Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano made the first trip around the world. The whole trip took about three years, from 1519 to 1522. I was excited to see the map because it made me think about their trip.
I also have a photo of two VERY heavy shoes and a helmet for diving very deep in the ocean. (The museum doesn't show the rest of the big heavy suit you would have to wear.) It must be hard to walk in those shoes, but maybe it's really fun to be down so deep where people almost never go.
