Thursday May 18
Rain was forecast for today, and we were lucky to get going before the downpour. We went to the town of Limueil, where the Vézère and Dordogne rivers meet. Like so many other places here, the view is beautiful. The Dordogne comes in from the top of the photo, and the Vézère from the left, then they continue as the Dordogne to the right:
If you walk straight up from the river(s), you reach a really interesting garden. In addition to its various flowers and trees, and its specialized areas featuring scented plants and medicinal herbs, the garden is very educational. Here's the set of bins illustrating four stages of Le Compost:
There's also a beehive surrounded, of course, by plants that bees like. The hive has windows that let you see the bees:
We saw at least two groups of schoolkids being shown around, and here's the younger group eating lunch inside:
And if you have had enough of the garden, you can play a giant game of chess:
We left Limueil just as the rain started, and went to the town of Monpazier, where we had stayed on our previous trip. We wanted to walk around, but the wind and rain were too much for us, so we counted ourselves lucky to have seen the confluence of the rivers and the gardens, and headed for home. The chateau, that is.
