One would think that Cyrano de Bergerac was a real person, and it's OK with me to hold that thought. Here he is, modeling glasses at a fancy eyewear store:
On Saturday morning, we rented a car and set off for our next destination, a small chateau not accessible by train. It's not far from Bergerac, so we had plenty of time to drive north to Périgueux, a city with a medieval area with very few cars. The cathedral is pretty stark and dark inside, but the domes have a very nice Byzantine influence:
We meandered south through the very green countryside, where wheat fields alternated with woods and hills, and followed the detailed directions to our chateau. Here we joined nine other couples, most of whom we've known since college. Our friend Susan had organized a similar gathering in 2014 in Tuscany, and we have her to thank again for this stunning place in Dordogne:
The building and furnishings are beautiful, and the grounds are very pleasant and peaceful. We'll take it.
